The gifts of the Holy Spirit are also for today. There is no scripture that says otherwise. I believe they are operated by faith.

I had to continue my message in two comments for some reason. Basically what I am getting at is the Holy Spirit is a promise even to our generation. There is a water baptism and a baptism of Holy Spirit. It’s talked about by Jesus, John the Baptist, Paul, etc. Speaking in tongues as stated in Corinthians is to build up the spirit man not just preaching the Gospel. Scripture is so clear on that.

The Jewish believers who came with Peter were amazed at the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the gentiles too. For they heard them speaking and other tongues and praising God.

Acts 2:38-39 Peter replied, ”Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away -all who have been called by the Lord our God.” If you notice in chapter 10 verse 44 it says even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who are listening to the message.
